After months of build-up, Infiniti's Emerg-E concept makes its debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.
We’ve brought you a lot of news on the oh-so-gorgeous range-extended sporty concept from Infiniti. From the car’s initial tease, to its leaked patent renders, to yesterdays prematurely released official images, the Emerg-E concept has been gathering a lot of hype ever since it was announced. Riding that momentum all the way to the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, the Japanese luxury automaker finally had a chance to show off the car today — and needless to say, it’s been quite sensation in Switzerland.
Since we’ve had a chance to speculate and dissect the Emerg-E over the months, we’re going to focus on two aspect of the Emerg-E that haven’t been quite clear – its engine and its overall range.
Infiniti’s Emerg-E concept packs a 402 horsepower, mid-engined, twin motor. According to Infiniti, the electric sports car is able to accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in an astonishing four seconds – and can reach 0 to 130 mph in “single [and] seamless 30 second burst.”
In addition to its sex-e numbers, the Emerge-E will surely appease green car enthusiasts. It carries a range of over 30-miles while emitting zero emissions in electric mode. When more range is required — and the range-extending gasoline engine is used in conjunction with its twin electric motors – the Emerg-E produces a CO2 output of only 55g/km.
“It is elegant yet dynamic, and has graceful power,” said Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Shiro Nakamura. “‘Mid-ship cars are usually less refined, but the body of INFINITI EMERG-E is like silk wrapping over the wheels.” We have to agree.
There is no denying that what we have seen thus far from Infiniti has us clearly impressed. The overall message echoing from the Emerg-E — concept or not — is Infiniti’s clear desire to push both performance-inspired and sustainable sports car to the forefront of the growing electric car market. Even though the Emerg-E itself lies somewhere in between a hybrid electric and plug-in electric, there is no denying the cars exciting technological features and beautiful silky-smooth design.
Infiniti says the Emerg-E is a glimpse into the company’s automotive future. If this is true, consider us read-e.
