Infiniti Electric Luxury Sedan Confirmed For 2014
At his Frankfurt Motor Show press conference, Infiniti VP Shiro Nakamura confirmed they will launch a a compact zero emissions luxury sedan in 2014.
The above sketch shows a silhouette of this yet unnamed luxury EV, revealing a sporty design which according to Infiniti will be a segment leader, just like the M35h which is officially the fastest full Hybrid available, or the new JX that is the first seven-seat crossover.
Here’s the most important bits of Mr. Nakamura’s speech:
"Infiniti plans to take 10 per cent of global luxury segments by 2016*. At today’s levels that would be 500,000 units. That is a giant step up on the number of cars we sold last year. The good news for my team is that we expand our global line-up to 10 models by 2016, so plenty for us to design.
And we come to our first Frankfurt show with our full range of cars and crossovers and a glimpse into the future with the Etherea compact luxury concept.
But we need to tell more people about our story and reach new global audiences. In March we announced our partnership with Red Bull Racing in Formula One, a relationship that is literally delivering rapid results for Infiniti.
We were also proud to have RBR driver and F1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel, join with Infiniti as our first ever global brand ambassador. Having a world champion of the caliber of Sebastian has been truly inspiring…and has lead directly to the car we will show you today….."

Infiniti M35h Sets Guinness World Record for the Fastest Hybrid
Infiniti already claims the new M35h is the world’s quickest hybrid with a 0-62 mph time of 5.5 seconds. Now the Japanese luxury automaker can add one more performance credential to the car’s list: the Guinness World Record for the fastest hybrid.
The certification was given after auto journalist Tim Pollard of CAR Magazine piloted the luxury hybrid sedan down the 1/4 mile drag course at the UK’s Santa Pod strip, setting an average time between the runs of 13.9031. Pollard’s best run clocked just 13.8960, with all trap speeds above 100 mph.
The M35h is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine making 302-hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, mated to an electric motor that adds 67-hp more. Plus, with all this performance, Infiniti claims a 27-mpg city rating and 29-mpg highway.
David, thank you for providing 100 percent customer satisfaction. Your hard work is greatly appreciated.
"Recently (Aug 2011) my wife and I purchased a (2008-2010) Infiniti EX35 Journey. Originating with David Ahn, our sales consultant, following through with the Sales and Finance Managers, our buying experience was exceptional within every stage of the car buying process from the initial greeting - to test driving - to follow-up - to price negotiation – to deal closing – to close-out follow-up. One of the differences between my experience with Parkway Motorcars and other local dealers was that their selling culture was genuinely courteous and sincere, expressing an attitude of gratitude for a new customer relationship that might extend into the future (high customer satisfaction with retention in mind). Yes, their business is to sell cars and maximize profits, which is similar endeavor that extends to other aspects of our lives - to persuade others of our interests and maximize our benefits. However, the negotiation phase was fair, transparent, congenial and compromising. As a buyer, you’ve got to do your homework, communicate an agreeable attitude and present your offer with reasonable justification. It can be a win-win scenario, which means both parties agree to a price."

2013 Infiniti G37 IPL Convertible Confirmed For Production
Seeing as Infiniti used last year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance to roll out its performance-focused branding and the new 2011 G37 IPL Coupe, perhaps it’s fitting that the company chose this year’s show to announce an IPL-tuned convertible will officially join the lineup for the 2013 model year.
“The Infiniti Performance Line pushes the premium performance envelope for buyers seeking a higher level of exclusivity and driving exhilaration, but does so with an Infiniti twist,” said Ben Poore, Infiniti Americas vice president, in a prepared statement. “The IPL G Convertible will deliver the goods, just like the current IPL G Coupe does — but with the added pleasure of open-air motoring.”
Although we’ve yet to see a production-spec car in person, the latest addition to the Infiniti Performance Line range will likely be a splitting image of the G37 IPL concept shown at last year’s Paris Motor Show. Predictably, that car was almost the splitting image of the production 2011 G37 IPL coupe, save for the fact it had a folding hardtop roof structure.
If that holds true for the production car, expect the G37 IPL Convertible to receive the same tweaks reserved for its fixed-roof sibling. IPL coupes currently receive a short-throw shifter for manual-transmission cars, tweaked intake and exhaust systems, limited-slip differential, larger 19-inch wheels with stickier rubber, stiffer suspension tuning, upgraded brakes, a unique exterior aero kit, and a revised 3.7-liter capable of delivering 348 hp and 276 lb-ft of torque.
Both delivery timing and pricing will be revealed closer to the car’s official debut, which is scheduled for November’s Los Angeles auto show. But seeing as the standard G37 convertible runs about more than a base G37 coupe, we wouldn’t be too shocked if the G37 IPL convertible carries a similar premium and stickers at close to $57,500.
We’ll learn more when we have a chance to see the IPL convertible concept and speak to Infiniti representatives later this morning. Stay tuned to Automobile Magazine for the latest news from Pebble Beach.
